As I contemplated what this week's post should be about- I thought it was a great opportunity to share my birth story. With Mother's Day this weekend, what better way to celebrate than by writing the intimate details of the day I became a mom? BUT as I began to write, I couldn't help feel so emotional and thankful for my momma and the intimate details that made her mine! So, this is for you momma. Happy Mother's Day!
I'm sure you've said, "you will really understand the love I have for you, when you become a mom yourself." Though, you would have said it much better than my attempt to quote you. You have a way of saying things, that are so powerful, without sounding the least bit condescending, pushy, or judgy. Unfortunately, I was not fortunate to inherent that you from you. But, oh is this true! Growing up, I knew you loved me, duh! I knew you would do anything for me, duh! But, I don't think I realized how strong that love was and that you have done and will continue to do "anything" for me! Becoming a mom has been the most amazing thing, not only because I have this beautiful daughter, but because I now have greater insight into your love for me and into your selfless soul.
It was probably, 6:45 a.m. on February 12th, I have no real idea as to what time it was as I was on such a high from labor, when you entered the labor and delivery room to meet your granddaughter. I remember catching your gaze and immediately starting to cry. At that moment, I knew. I knew how you felt each time you looked at me. I knew how you felt each time I hurt and there was nothing you could do about it. I had been a mom for an hour, ONE HOUR, but I felt this overwhelming love and protection for this little life that I had created. I finally knew how you felt about me. I understood you better than I ever have before.
You are the most amazing woman I have ever known. My journey through motherhood has brought us closer and shown me how selfless and giving you are. I understand you in a different way now and am so grateful for that.
I love you. Happy Mother's Day!
